Server memory upgrade RFQ checklist
An upgrade request is a configuration question, not only a module-capacity request. The installed memory population and target platform belong in the inquiry.
What should a buyer confirm?
For a server-memory upgrade RFQ, provide the complete server and processor model, every installed module PN you can identify, capacity and speed per module, the current slot population, target memory capacity per server, number of servers and requested module quantity. Keep the complete suffix on each PN. If the system documentation or qualified vendor list is available, check the planned DDR5 RDIMM speed, capacity, rank organization and population pattern before submitting the request. Do not assume that a module is suitable because it matches DDR5, capacity or advertised transfer rate. If some configuration fields are unknown, label them as unknown and include a photo or transcription of the installed module label rather than substituting a similar catalog code.
Catalog comparison
| Upgrade input | Minimum useful detail | Common ambiguity avoided |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Full server and processor model | Different generations or CPU configurations |
| Installed memory | PNs, capacities, speed and slot use | Mixing unlike modules without documenting the baseline |
| Target state | Capacity per server and number of servers | Confusing per-node capacity with total project quantity |
| Requested parts | PN and quantity on each line | Losing the exact identity in a multi-PN request |
Capture the current configuration before choosing modules
Record the server model, processor model and installed memory before building a product shortlist. If possible, list the existing module PN from each distinct installed type and note how many slots are populated. This creates a baseline for checking the manufacturer’s population rules.
The current ServerProcure catalog contains multiple 32GB, 64GB, 96GB and 128GB DDR5 RDIMM PNs. Capacity alone therefore cannot identify the required module. Transfer rate and rank organization are additional product fields, not standalone compatibility proof.
Separate the target capacity from the order quantity
State the desired memory capacity per server and the number of servers in scope. Then list the requested module quantity separately. This prevents a total project capacity from being mistaken for the capacity of one node or one DIMM.
If the upgrade is being phased, identify whether all nodes must retain the same configuration. Include any maintenance or deployment constraints in the inquiry, while leaving the final population decision tied to the server documentation and internal change process.
